We believe philanthropy can do more than sit still.
Abundance Capital helps donors use charitable resources for impact-first investments that strengthen communities over time.
The Problem We're Solving
There is no shortage of capital in the world. Yet many nonprofits, impact-oriented businesses, housing initiatives, and community organizations struggle to access the kind of flexible funding that helps good work grow and last.
Meanwhile, billions of charitable dollars remain parked in donor-advised funds and philanthropic accounts with enormous unrealized potential for community impact.

“You already gave the money away. Why not let it go to work as an impact investment loan–and if it returns, it can do it again.”

What is Abundance Capital?
Abundance Capital is a nonprofit platform for donor-directed, venture philanthropy-style impact investing.
We help donors participate in loans, equity investments, recoverable grants, catalytic funds, and other flexible charitable tools that support nonprofits, impact-first businesses, and community initiatives.

01
Relationship-Based Sourcing
Every investment enters through trusted intermediaries, community organizations, and accelerators—not cold applications. We invest where relationships already exist.
02
Blended Capital Structures
Combining grants, loans, and equity to meet social enterprises where they are. Flexibility over formula. Mission over market-rate returns.
03
Long-Term Partnership
We often make multi-year commitments with strategic support beyond capital. We stay invested through challenges, pivots, and growth—not just the wins.
04
Regenerative Returns
Investment returns flow back into each Angel Fund, creating a compounding cycle. Capital that keeps working, communities that keep growing.
The Abundance Angel Experience
When a donor opens a donor-advised fund at Abundance Capital and begins putting charitable dollars to work through impact investments, they become an Abundance Angel.
Many Angels are looking for a more connected philanthropic experience. We believe giving should feel less isolated and more relational. Through gatherings, field visits, educational events, conversations with founders and nonprofit leaders, and collaborative opportunities with other donors, Angels become part of a growing community centered around thoughtful philanthropy and community impact. Along the way, relationships form among people who might not otherwise have shared the same spaces.

"Impact investing through a DAF can feel lonely when you are making decisions on your own. The Abundance Angels community has changed that for us. Abundance has given us new ways to learn, ask questions, celebrate wins, and build friendships along the way."
- Rebecca Hart, Abundance Angel
Because the model is flexible and donor-directed, Angels are often able to respond to opportunities and community needs more quickly than traditional systems allow. Angels also gain access to the Angel Hub, a private platform where donors can explore opportunities, follow impact updates, engage with other Angels, and stay connected to the broader Abundance community.

Our Story
Abundance Capital was founded by Mike Gatchell and Margaret Gifford, who saw an opportunity to bridge philanthropy, community development, and impact investing in a more holistic way.
Drawing from backgrounds in nonprofit leadership, finance, entrepreneurship, and community investing, they recognized that many donors wanted to move beyond transactional giving and participate more directly in the communities and causes they care about.
What began as an experiment in donor-directed impact investing has grown into a network of more than 100 Abundance Angels supporting nonprofits, businesses, housing initiatives, and catalytic community projects across multiple sectors and regions.
