Founders and Board

Mike Gatchell

Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer / Board Chair

Mike leads overall operations, philanthropist engagement, and strategic partnership development for Abundance Capital. His professional background includes a blend of business, higher education, nonprofit leadership, and community development. He has served on numerous boards supporting social enterprises and community development organizations throughout the Southeast.

Mike brings extensive experience in executive fundraising leadership, relationship management, and mission-driven organizational growth. He holds a B.A. in Business Administration from Furman University and an M.B.A. from Clemson University.

Margaret Gifford

Co-Founder & Chief Investment and Compliance Officer / Board Secretary

Margaret leads investment strategy, compliance, and impact investment structuring for Abundance Capital. Her background spans impact investing, blended finance, entrepreneurship, ecosystem development, and strategic communications. Over the course of her career, she has helped catalyze more than $30 million in private and public investment capital and has founded three social impact companies.

Before co-founding Abundance Capital, Margaret worked with organizations including Morgan Stanley, HP, and Ogilvy, while also helping build entrepreneurial ecosystems across food, agriculture, and oceans. She is a frequent speaker on innovative impact capital and community investing.

Chief Community Officer

Kate Dabbs

Kate Dabbs leads community engagement, donor relations, communications, and storytelling efforts for Abundance Capital. Her professional background spans nonprofit leadership, higher education, real estate, marketing, and agency leadership, with a focus on helping organizations make meaningful community impact.

A graduate of Furman University with a master’s degree from Clemson University, Kate is actively engaged in civic and philanthropic leadership, including service on the board of the Community Foundation of Greenville. Her work at Abundance Capital focuses on building community around philanthropy and helping donors connect more deeply with the people, ideas, and opportunities shaping the work.

Finance & Operations Manager

Emily Murphy

Emily Murphy supports finance and operational systems for Abundance Capital, helping to steward donor funds and manage reporting, investment administration, and organizational processes with care.

Her background includes experience in development operations, financial planning support, fundraising systems, and nonprofit administration. Prior to joining Abundance Capital, Emily served in leadership roles supporting development operations at Furman University and has worked across philanthropy, finance, and nonprofit organizations throughout her career.

Emily holds a degree in Economics from Furman University and is actively involved in community and school leadership initiatives in Greensboro, North Carolina.
