The Investment

Across South Carolina, rising housing costs have made it increasingly difficult for many working families to find safe, affordable places to live. At the same time, individuals working to rebuild their lives after addiction often face barriers to stable employment and long-term economic mobility. Homes of Hope was created to address both challenges. Since 1998, the organization has developed affordable housing while providing workforce development opportunities for men overcoming addiction. What began as a vision to help families access quality housing and create pathways to employment has grown into the largest nonprofit developer of single-family affordable housing in South Carolina.

Between 2023 and 2025, Abundance Angels recommended more than $522,000 in mission-aligned loans to support Homes of Hope’s affordable housing efforts. Fourteen Angels participated across three loan opportunities, providing patient capital designed to support housing development and expansion. Homes of Hope’s model extends beyond the construction of individual houses. The organization develops affordable, energy-efficient homes in mixed-income communities while connecting residents to resources that support long-term stability and economic mobility.

Workforce development participants gain construction skills, mentorship, and employment experience that help prepare them for careers in the skilled trades. The loans reflect a shared commitment to expanding housing opportunities and strengthening communities through approaches that address both housing stability and pathways to employment.
