The Investment

Since 2006, Upstate Circle of Friends has served residents of Greenville’s District 25 and surrounding communities through programs focused on food access, youth development, housing support, and family stability. When the organization identified an opportunity to bring primary care and behavioral health services directly into the neighborhood, it partnered with Unity Health on Main and Just Say Something to establish an on-site medical center. The project would provide primary care, behavioral health support, case management, nutrition education, and other services in a location already trusted by the community. Although grant funding had been secured for the project, the funds were not scheduled to arrive until after construction and renovation work needed to begin. In June 2023, an Abundance Angel recommended a $110,000 loan to help bridge that timing gap and allow the project to move forward. The loan enabled renovations and clinical improvements to begin before grant funds were received, accelerating the creation of a neighborhood-based healthcare resource. Once the grant funding arrived, the loan was repaid in full, allowing the charitable capital to be redeployed to future community opportunities.
