Putting Charitable Capital to Work in the Lowcountry

The Lowcountry Impact Fund (LIF) is a locally led charitable investing fund that helps philanthropic dollars do more than one good thing.

By providing access to flexible capital for businesses, nonprofits, and community projects, LIF addresses funding gaps today while creating a renewable source of capital for tomorrow.
Locally led and powered by Abundance Capital, the nonprofit venture-philanthropy platform that provides the charitable and investment infrastructure for the Fund.

About this Fund

The Lowcountry is growing, but many of the businesses, nonprofits, and community projects shaping its future face gaps in access to flexible capital. Traditional grants and conventional financing each play important roles, but not every community opportunity fits neatly within either model.

The Lowcountry Impact Fund offers another tool. LIF puts charitable capital to work through impact-first investments designed to strengthen the Lowcountry. Investments are structured for potential repayment, allowing returned capital to be put to work again in future Lowcountry opportunities.

LIF is locally led and powered by Abundance Capital, a nonprofit venture-philanthropy platform that provides the charitable and investment infrastructure needed to receive, structure, administer, and redeploy charitable capital.

Fund Benefits

Locally Led
Local knowledge and relationships help identify opportunities rooted in the needs of the Lowcountry.

Flexible Capital
Charitable capital can help address needs that may not fit neatly within traditional grants or conventional financing.

Renewable Impact
If capital is returned, it can be put to work again in another Lowcountry opportunity.

How Participation Works

Open or designate.

Open a DAF with Abundance Capital, or recommend a grant from an existing fund, and designate your contribution to LIF.

Pool and deploy.

Angel contributions are pooled and deployed into impact-first opportunities using flexible structures such as loans and equity.

Return and recycle.

If capital returns, Angels can reinvest in the LIF pool or redirect it to their individual Angel Fund—so the same dollars do good more than once.

Investment Priorities

LIF considers opportunities across a broad range of Lowcountry needs, with investments evaluated for community benefit, capital need, potential for repayment, and alignment with the Fund's priorities.

  • Attainable Housing

  • Economic Opportunity

  • Conservation

  • Quality of Life

  • Education

  • Transportation
